2008 Solo and Chamber Music Competitions:

We are prepared to work with the HYSO/RPYO schedules, and all other conflicts, too.
2008 Solo Competition for Strings (violin, viola, cello, bass)—four levels possible:
- Pizzicato, for students in grades 1 through 3 (maximum 6 minute audition time)
First Prize of $50 and Second Prize of $25 will be awarded.
- Arco, for students in grades 4 through 6 (maximum 9 minute audition time)
First Prize of $50 and Second Prize of $25 will be awarded.
Pizzicato and Arco Divisions may be combined, depending on applications received.
- Col Legno, for students in grades 7 through 9 (maximum 12 minute audition time)
First Prize of $100 and Second Prize of $50 will be awarded.
- Jeté, for students in grades 10 through 12 (maximum 15 minute audition time)
First Prize of $200 and Second Prize of $100 will be awarded.
Honorable Mentions and special prizes may be awarded at the discretion of the judges.
In addition, the prizewinners in each category will be invited to perform at a
Winners’ Recital in the Rehearsal Hall, on Sunday, May 18th, 2008, time TBA.
Past prizewinners are invited to compete again; however, First rizewinners may compete in the same division only after a lapse of one year.
Application fee is $20 (checks to be made payable to Fortissimo! Inc.).
Your application must be postmarked by Thursday, May 1st, 2008.
Repertoire: Please perform from memory two works of contrasting styles, by different composers. Works written with accompaniment must be performed that way, and you are responsible for your own accompanist. Please contact Ingrid Bock if you need help.
