2008 Solo and Chamber Music Competitions:
Other things you might want to know:
We don’t mind at all if you make changes to the pieces you’re playing, as long as your program still meets the competition requirements. In any case, before you start playing, the judges will ask you what pieces you’re doing, even if you’ve written them on your application. They’ll also ask which piece you’d like to start with—that is your choice.
Cellists, if you have a special chair that’s the perfect height for you, bring it, by all means. There is carpeting where you will be playing, so bass and cello endpins probably won’t slip.
In past years, competitors have wondered what to wear. The most important thing is to be comfortable, and to not have your clothing get in your way. Competitors usually dress up slightly, choosing the kind of outfit one might wear to a graduation ceremony. The temperature in the Music Building seems generally very comfortable, but bring a sweater if you tend to get cold when you’re getting ready to perform.
